Stunningly Intricate Papercut Art by Jennifer York in an Exhibition at Wild Dunes Resort

Each piece invites us to explore imagery of the Lowcountry - wrought iron gates from downtown Charleston, tidal marshlands, ships and lighthouses. Through these massive snowflake-like Tyvek papercuts, Artist Jennifer York creates evocative new compositions, with both a sense of familiarity and mystery.

The exhibition includes “Epic Papercuts” created on a large scale from Tyvek house wrap, “Mirrored Vistas” composed of vintage mirrors and scenic papercut overlays, “Shadow Houses” architecturally detailed and hand-cut, as well as “Sky Chapel” a laser cut steel sculpture.

Jennifer York grew up in rural Indiana, earned a BFA in Sculpture with Art History minor from Pratt Institute and an MFA in Fibers from Savannah College of Art and Design. She founded Jennythreads Studio in Ashville North Carolina, producing fine handmade apparel and crafting an independent living for 19 years. After traveling to a dozen countries for international art residencies in 2018-19, York relocated to Charleston, South Carolina. Since then, she has been a Gibbes Museum of Art Visiting Artist. She has exhibited at the Gibbes Museum of Art (Charleston, SC), Artfields (Lake City, SC), the Annual National Outdoor Sculpture Competition & Exhibition (North Charleston, SC), the Burroughs-Chapin Art Museum (Myrtle Beach, SC) and the Museum of Art – DeLand (DeLand, FL).
