Collection: Debbie Poynter

Debbie Poynter | Charleston, SC

Debbie Poynter grew up along the Texas Gulf Coast and continues to draw inspiration from the beaches, marshlands and sunsets in the low country. She loves exploring the versatile and ever-changing seasonal colors of the marsh grasses and coastal areas. She finds the transitional changes between the light and shadows captivating. Color, light and movement is what motivates her and that is what she hopes to capture, that fleeting moment in time.

In her work, Debbie utilizes vibrant colors, yet manages to create a wonderful sense of calm and softness. In contrast, she enjoys the excitement of capturing the dynamic strength and challenge of movement when present.

Debbie studied four years of life drawing and mixed media at the Putney School of Art & Design in London, graduating with a Diploma in Art in 2013. After returning to South Carolina she continued exploring her art and developed a passion for pastels. She has exhibited in London and the Charleston area. Recently, she was juried into the top 100 pastelists in the Southeastern Pastel Society International Exhibition and has earned several awards from The Pastel Society of South Carolina, The Mount Pleasant Artist Guild Gallery and the Seacoast Gallery, Myrtle Beach, SC.
