Gret Mackintosh | Charleston, SC

Born and raised in Burlington, North Carolina, Gret's earliest memories involve drawing and painting animals and houses, which has led to a lifelong career in the art and design world. Gret attended the College of Design at North Carolina State University, where she earned a Bachelors in both Landscape Architecture and Art & Design. After graduation, she moved to Charleston, South Carolina to begin her career as a landscape architect, working for a local firm for almost 13 years, while continuing to pursue painting on the side. She steadily evolved her own, personal style while doing commission work ranging from extensive animal portraiture to custom watercolors for international events. In 2018 Gret made the leap into a career as a full-time artist.

In her current work, both her experience in landscape architecture, and living life on the coast, play a large role. The subject matter often involves exploring aerial landscapes and waterways, both natural and man-made patterns and their connections. She creates paintings that fall somewhere between large scale maps and landscape renderings. Working mainly in acrylics, she sometimes adds in other mediums such as oil sticks, graphite or charcoal, building in layers on the canvas.

Gret was honored by The Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina as its 2022 Griffith-Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year.

“My constantly evolving view of the natural world guides and inspires my work on a daily basis.” -Gret Mackintosh
